Dr. Manuel E. Morales

Project Researcher

Manuel E. MORALES is Researcher at ERA Chair team, IN4ACT at the School of Economics and Business in the Kaunas University of Technology and member of the Executive board at the ERASME Excellent Centre for Sustainability in France. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Université Clermont Auvergne and a Postdoc at the Industrial Bioeconomy Chair in NEOMA Business School. Holding a graduate degree (Master) in Sustainability education (FR) and other in Agribusiness studies (MX). He is a member of the International Society for Industrial Ecology and French Regional Studies Association. Manuel has a long experience in research, fundraising, lecturering and as regional consultant in Europe and Latin America, carrying strategic development projects within socially responsible initiatives, as well as the detection of business opportunities and promotion of synergic projects within industrial ecosystems encompassed on a systemic approach.

He has scientific interests in:

  • sustainability,
  • industrial economy,
  • circular economy,
  • natural resources management
  • and environmental engineering

His profile combines industrial economy, ecosystem theory, complex and systems analysis to study innovation and economic behavior in a variety of industrial and public settings, underlining the meso-economic dimension in the spatial studies. He applies multi-layer modelling, network analysis and system dynamics as a methodology to simulate future desirable scenarios.

Manuel has a substantial record of high-quality publications within leading international journals like , he has published in high impact peer-reviewed journals such as “Sustainability”, “Resources, Conservation & Recycling”, “Processes” and “Industrial Ecology”. He has been guest-editor for some sustainability books and he is currently reviewer for the Journal of Sustainability and the Journal of Cleaner Production, standing as co-founder and executive board member of the Jean Monnet Excellence Center on Sustainability in France. With more than 9 years of experience in academia, Manuel has worked as full and temporary professor in Mexico and France, teaching but also managing and implementing action plans at the faculty level in terms of development and related to quality and academic accreditation.

  • Université Clermont Auvergne in France, teaching Applied Economics and Modelling;
  • Cost Technological University in Mexico teaching Innovation, Project Management and Economic strategies among others.

He has 10 years of experience managing and developing projects within several international organizations as advisor and consultant (INCA Rural and SAGARPA in Mexico, ANR, ADEME in France as well as with the European Commission).

  • Jean Monnet Center of Excellence call for projects, resulting in the creation in 2018 of the ERASME center of excellence for sustainability.
  • Biowaste, Evironment, ECOnomy and Metabolism (BEECOME) project grant from the French National Environmental and Energy Agency (ADEME).
  • BLUEPRINT Circular economy (EC) project awarded grant from Interreg Channel Manche between the UK and France and
  • CEFLOOP project submitted to the H2020 Circular Economy call.
  • Lecturers staff incentive for high quality performance in 2014 (Cost Technical University in Mexico)
  • D. Scholarship grant in Sustainability by the Mexican government in 2015
  • CERDI Grant to award the Ph.D. candidate research work in the International Society of Industrial Ecology in 2018 in Qingdao, Chine.
